Jerry Percifield, AIA, joins HDR Architecture
News Posted: December 20, 2011Jerry Percifield, AIA, a well-renowned national leader in design for Science + Technology for the past four decades, has joined HDR Architecture as project principal. Formerly Principal for Lord, Aeck & Sargent’s Science Studio, he has extensive experience with research facilities for both public and private sector organizations. Percifield’s move to HDR will give him the opportunity to expand his unrivalled expertise in the design of research facilities, particularly those utilizing innovative non-invasive imaging modalities.
Percifield explains that “it is the century of biology and incredible discovery bringing together science and medicine.” He goes on to explain that the integration of basic science and clinical research with healthcare – in a push to personalized medicine – requires collaboration among people who are not used to working together. “I believe that design can support the ‘intellectual collisions’ at the heart of this new frontier by making sure that people run into one another; so that the physical environment in a sense ‘directs’ people towards collaboration.”
With HDR’s vast portfolio of Healthcare and Science + Technology facilities, Percifield will participate in the rethinking and re-engineering of facilities for life sciences, as basic and clinical fields converge. With new trans-disciplinary project-based research propelling innovation at an unprecedented pace, Percifield will be instrumental in assuring that new facility paradigms are flexible and equipped to accommodate these changes. Percifield will also lend his experience and expertise to mentor a new generation of designers to further enhance HDR’s dedication to design excellence in this environment of extraordinary scientific advancement.
