2006 Experts' Choice Award Winners
By:
May 2006

SOFTWARE:
FLOVENT CFD Software -Flomerics,Inc.

FLOVENT is a powerful Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software that predicts 3D airflow, heat transfer, and contamination distribution in buildings of all types and sizes. The menu system is designed specifically for engineers involved in the design and optimization of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. No matter how complex the airflow application is, this modeling software enables the user to understand it more comprehensively through the medium of virtual reality and computer 3-D animation.

APPAREL:
Sterile Glove Platform - Cardinal Health

This patented glove platform decreases allergens while maintaining the superior characteristics, properties, and performance of a natural rubber latex glove. An innovative-patented powder-free coating technology uses chlorination and manufacturing processes to produce a glove with superior “effortless” donning capability, exceptional fit, and soft feel. Since this process requires only one-third as much chlorine as non-coated gloves, it can be eco-friendly. In addition, the creation of new blends and technologies of synthetic materials has created an unparalleled advanced glove platform without the natural rubber allergens.

SUPPLIES:
Interchangeable Mop Hardware System - Contec,Inc.

This new interchangeable mop hardware system simplifies cleaning while allowing for maximum flexibility in critical environments. The new telescoping stainless steel and anodized aluminum interchangeable handles smoothly expand from 50” to 92”. The quick connect feature allows for easy, speedy attachment of the head to the handle. Another improvement is the capped end on both the heads and handles, which inhibits contamination and bacteria growth. This new system is compatible with all Contec interchangeable handles.

WATER/CHEMICALS/GASES:
Liquozon®Ozonated Water Delivery Subsystem - MKS Instruments,Inc.

The Liquozon® Ozonated Water Delivery Subsystems provide an environmentally friendly alternative to many toxic and corrosive chemical processes in the semiconductor industry. They offer the highest dissolved ozone concentration available up to 90 ppm, at flows 5 to 60 liters per minute. The wide flow range accommodates a broad array of process requirements. And the closed-loop control ensures a stable ozone concentration even at variable flow rates. The 03-based processes have not only shown to be effective environmentally safer alternatives, but also improve performance, while reducing chemical consumption and lowering costs.

FURNITURE:
Class 10 Cleanroom Chairs - BioFit Engineered Products

These Class 10 cleanroom and cleanroom/ static control chairs are the only chairs manufactured in a cleanroom. The chairs provide comfort, support posture changes, and accommodate working at desk, bench, or high-bench level. Particle emission is minimized by the special sealant process, and filter media is used that traps particles as small as 0.3 microns, surpassing the ANSI and ISO standards. Adjustable armrests both in height and width provide support for individual users, and helps reduce the potential for particle emissions generated by a gown contacting an armrest.

CLEANING/CRITICAL CLEANING:
Cleanroom Services - Pegasus Cleanroom Services

Provides cleaning services for controlled environments such as pharmaceutical, microelectronic and semiconductor manufacturing, life science laboratories, data centers and computer rooms. They offer a comprehensive package of services for controlled environments ranging from particle and sterile cleaning, ESD floor care and testing, and cleanroom auditing to training and FDA certification and compliance. Their reliable, expertly trained, and supervised technicians understand the importance of cleanroom protocol and Federal and ISO standards compliance. An ISO 9001 certified company, Pegasus has the expertise and experience to design and implement a contamination control and maintenance program for controlled environments for ISO 14644 Classes 1 to 8.

INSTRUMENTATION:
Handheld 2016 Particle Counter –Lighthouse Worldwide Solutions

These Handheld 2016 particle counters are ergonomically designed and lightweight. They offer six channels of simultaneous particle counting, and display both cumulative and differential particle count data as well as temperature/relative humidity data on its easy to read 3.8” (9.65cm) touch screen. A removable battery maximizes the handheld’s uptime. Data is easily downloaded using the data transfer software. The handheld can be used as a mobile particle monitor or can become a part of a large facility monitoring/management system.

BEST FACILITY AWARD:
Naval Research Laboratory – Institute for Nanoscience - AdvanceTEC LLC

In October 2003, the contract for purchase of cleanroom zones 7-10 for the Naval Research Laboratory – Institute for Nanoscience was issued to AdvanceTEC. These cleanrooms were built differently from the initial blueprints of zones 1-6 (already complete) based on recommendations from Ad-vanceTEC to provide a more usable and maintainable product. The contract called for design and construction of a 2,000 square foot Class 100 R&D Nanotech Facility for Sensor Research, including mechanical services, cleanroom envelope, process systems, exhaust systems, structural engineering and EMI and Vibration Isolation Systems. Process systems include DI water system, process gases, chilled water system, acid exhaust, and solvent exhaust.

Additional systems included build-in redundancy in the air handlers obtained with a fan wall system, a high integrity ceiling grid system, a redesigned return air system to significantly reduce noise and a redesigned wall system to reduce vibration.

The 5,000 square foot Class 100 cleanroom is divided into four areas. Zones 1-6 equal 3000 square feet of “ballroom” that house the deposition, gas etch, wet etch, and characterization equipment. These zones are individually monitored and controlled for temperature and humidity. Zones 7 & 8 are the photolithography areas that require charcoal filtration and zones 9 & 10 house sensitive microscopes and E-Beam Writers that require temperature control to 0.1 degree centigrade.

AdvanceTEC made significant design modifications and innovations and built Zones 7-10 providing a significantly more usable and maintainable product for their client while working within the confines of an existing workspace and budget.
